Father Anthony Federico is the Director of Vocations & Seminarians for the Archdiocese of Hartford. He was ordained to the priesthood in 2019 and served as the Parochial Vicar at two parishes, including Blessed Michael McGivney Parish in his hometown of New Haven, before being appointed to his current ministry.
Before entering the seminary, Father Anthony worked as a sportswriter and editor at ESPN. He is also the author of Joe B., a novel that reimagines the Book of Job in modern-day Manhattan, and the co-host of the Practically Catholic podcast, where he and a young missionary mom offer practical advice for living the Catholic faith in everyday life.
Father Anthony’s journey to the priesthood is nothing short of extraordinary. Despite achieving what many would consider a dream career—traveling, making money, and living a comfortable life—he felt an overwhelming emptiness. In 2012, his world was turned upside down when a single headline led to public scrutiny and the loss of his job. The experience of being misjudged and cast aside became a turning point, forcing him to confront the deeper longing that had been in his heart since his teenage years. At the lowest moment of his life, he turned to his faith and rediscovered the voice he had once heard as a young man: "Anthony, you will be a priest someday."
Saying “yes” to God’s plan, Father Anthony entered the seminary and was later ordained a Catholic priest. Now leading the effort to inspire and guide young men in discernment, his impact has been remarkable. When he stepped into the role in 2022, the Archdiocese had not seen a single new seminarian enter formation. In just over a year, over 100 men have begun the discernment process, with five new seminarians entering studies last fall and 10 more applying for the upcoming year—the largest numbers in recent memory.
This surge in vocations is no coincidence—it is a direct response to the Prayer for Priestly Vocations, a powerful reminder that the call to the priesthood begins with the Lord’s invitation. Passionate and relatable, Father Anthony meets men where they are, sharing his powerful testimony and igniting hearts with the fire of faith. His mission is bold:
"Not just to ask for one or two new priests, but to pray for a thousand priests, a thousand deacons, a thousand religious sisters, and a thousand strong Catholic marriages."
With an unwavering trust in God and a deep love for the Church, Father Anthony continues to inspire, guide, and accompany men on the path to their true vocation. His story is living proof that God’s plan is greater than our own—and that He brings beauty from even the darkest moments of our lives.
